Description

This 1956 Viuda y Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso classical guitar is in excellent condition. The phrase “Viuda y Sobrinos de Esteso” means “the widow and nephews of Esteso”. After the death of Domingo Esteso, his nephews, three brothers named Julio, Mariano and Faustino, started to build guitars for his surviving widow in the early 1950’s. They kept the Esteso name out of respect for their aunt and due to the extreme renown of Domingo Esteso, their late uncle.

This is a firm sounding instrument. It has a wide faced, generous plantilla for which Conde Hermanos (successor to Viuda y Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso) are known. The guitar was originally owned and extensively toured with by Regino Sainz de la Maza, who famously premiered the Concerto de Aranjuez in 1939 and later taught and composed at the Madrid Conservatory. Was sold to an American, Robert Hudson, who invited to Madrid by Joachin Rodrigo and who studied with Sainz de la Maza in the early 1970s in Madrid.
